Coming from Palm Beach, FL Peggie D. Sherry has lived in the Tampa Bay area since 1975. Her first career was as a Banker for 14 years; leaving banking she became a Television Producer for PBS, then in 1999 she began her work with cancer patients by providing day outings, educational events and weekend camps. She serves and has served on numerous committees and grants at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center since 2005. Ms. Sherry has been grant reviewer for Department of Defense, Susan G. Komen and the Hillsborough Education Foundation. Ms. Sherry also continues to produce/edit for television and video which she has been doing since 1993.
Ms. Sherry has been honored with the many awards most notably 2015 USF College of Public Health’s Exceptional Community Partner Award; Breast Cancer Wellness Magazine’s Advocate of the Year 2014; Aetna Foundation’s Voices of Health Award; US Commerce Association’s 2011, 2012, 2013 Tampa Award for Cancer Information Services; Tampa Bay Buccaneers Football Team’s Distinguished Breast Cancer Survivor; eBay’s Grand Prize Winner “Every Mom’s a Hero” International contest; Honoree Miles for Moffitt Priscilla Mack Survivorship Award; NASA Honoree for Breast Cancer Survivors; Yoplait Yogurt National Champion; American Red Cross’ Good Neighbor Award; WEDU’s (PBS TV) Speaking of Women’s Health Award; Florida State Daughters of the American Revolution FL State Community Service Award; FOX News Hometown Hero; Krewe of Agustina Diamond Volunteer Award, Association of Fundraising Professionals’ (AFP) Award for Philanthropy and Hillsborough County Children’s Services Volunteer League’s Award of Appreciation. Ms Sherry has also been awarded three Telly Awards for video excellence, Videographers Awards, distinguished Producer/Editor and two Communicator Awards.
Community Service has always been a passion for Ms. Sherry. She is the Founder of the Gasparilla Krewe of Agustina de Aragon and the Krewe of Agustina Scholarship Fund. She has served on various committees on the local, state and national level for the Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the American Colonists.
Current memberships include: DAR; DAC, Chapter Treasurer; Krewe of Agustina, Board of Directors; FOC, Board of Directors; New Tampa Rotary; Rotary’s Camp FL, Operations Committee; Beth Waters Friendship Foundation, Board of Directors; and Hillsborough Grants Collaborative, Executive Board.
As a spokesperson, motivational speaker, author and advocate Ms Sherry has appeared/quoted NBC Dateline, Boston Globe, USA Today, Washington Post, Miami Herald, PBS specials, Huffington Post, Heal Magazine, DuPont Registry Magazine, In the Field, Breast Cancer Wellness Magazine (cover photo/story), Healthy Cells Magazine (cover photo/story); along with over 100 local TV/Radio/Print media interviews.
Cassandra Pannwitz Leonard, MBA, CHC
Cassandra, has been a part of the Faces of Courage foundation since 2006 and held previous positions on board as VP and is now current elected President. It is her goal to continue the forward momentum, vision and mission for Faces of Courage to maintain its goals: to acquire land, progress with Fundraising activities/events that will allow FOC to offer more camp programs that include a men’s program, outings, camper adventures; as well to become a State and Nationally recognized Non Profit Organization for what FOC does to help their Cancer patients, survivors and families. Cassandra’s experience is comprised of 26 years in the Corporate Operations and Marketing Management field for companies in a variety of industries to include Healthcare, Nuclear Medicine Radiology, industry technologies and food/beverage. She is the founder and CEO of Market Power Associates, Inc., a diverse Marketing and Management Consultancy that provides experience and strategies to successfully assist start up ventures and current business practices in the medical or retail industries. In addition Cassandra is a certified Health Coach / Advocate and founder of the Association of Health Coaching and Advocates, LLC (AHCA, LLC). A company that guides/support people (patients) who are in need of a health care advocate and navigation toward better health, wellness and the healthcare system.
Cassandra is a Tampa, Florida native, retired professional Equestrian, Stage III adenocarcinoma -cervical cancer survivor, bilingual-German, and holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration with Bachelors of Arts in Human Resource Management/Marketing Management, Certified Health Coach and Certified in Health Research. Since her win against cancer, it’s been her life mission to share inspiration, advocacy, and knowledge with others through her experience and education. She is married to her wonderful husband Chris who is a recent pancreatic cancer survivor. She is a caregiver to her family (parents and husband) to include her four legged daughter named SIG who is being trained by her as a therapy pet to provide “Pawsitive” words and inspiration to others in the community.
Rick brings much value to FOC with his personal experience and survival of Stage III Colorectal Cancer. In 2006 Rick was diagnosed with stage 3 Colorectal Cancer. Since, having had 2 more diagnosed types of cancers, Rick’s dedicated his life to help “Comfort – Relief – Cure” cancer patients & their families through fundraising and hands on programs like the camps that we host at Faces of Courage, he is an amazing Chef at our FOC camps while endeavoring in his own personal “Kick-the-Can-cer” (aluminum can recycling campaign) “I just don’t want anyone to have to endure what I’ve been through!” Rick is currently involved with several organizations like O’Brien’s Fire Breathing Rubber Ducks which benefits both H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center (www.duckcancer.com) and Faces of Courage, which he is also a board member, and St Baldrick’s (childhood cancer) as a shavee. As you can see, being a 3 time cancer survivor, Rick truly is a Cancer Warrior, has great vision, stories and support to share. We are so proud to have him as part of the FOC Board Member Team and Family.
Beth Morgan Miller
Beth is a 1991 graduate of the University of Tennessee – Chattanooga with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Marketing. She is a member of Chi Omega Fraternity and is involved in other fundraising groups such as the O’Brien’s Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies where she also serves as a board member.
Beth became involved in fundraising when she met Rick Miller. She is a “behind the scenes” fundraiser by assisting in the coordination and planning of events and camps. She learned of Faces of Courage when she met Peggie Sherry through a fellow board member at a fundraising meeting and immediately became involved. She has made it her mission to move heaven and earth in the fight against cancer and aspires to help the foundation achieve its mission for now and the future. We are so thankful to have Beth on the FOC Board Member team, with her own experience to share with our families on what it takes to be a caregiver, support system and cheering squad to the one you love that has been diagnosed with cancer.
Yvonne Scalise was born and raised in Tampa and is a fourth generation native. Yvonne is very passionate about her heritage and community. A graduate of Hillsborough High School. Past V.P. Board of Directors for Learning Gate Community School, Past Board Member Ybor City Museum Society, and past Board member Ybor City Saturday Market.
Yvonne began volunteering with Faces of Courage 9 yrs ago as a volunteer for the Camps. Since that time Yvonne’s focus has been not only to raise funds to support camps but also to bring awareness of the organizations mission through Community Outreach. She is an integral part of our FOC Board Member family, through her vast connections, experience and dedication.
Yvonne’s personal goal is to see that the organization’s Mission is accomplished and to be part of the team that takes it to the next level of success.
Frank is CEO of Wreath Media Inc., a Tarpon Springs, Florida native, he brings to Faces of Courage many levels of experience from website development, software design, to fundraising. He brings experience having been involved in various non profit events as a volunteer or donor for the past 10 years. He also brings personal experience to share with our survivors and families on the aspects of being a care giver; the strength it takes, the decisions to make, and being the rock for his beloved late wife Kathleen Wreath whom all in the FOC family knew. Having Stage IV Colon Cancer she shared her 8 year survival life story to our campers in 2015 prior to her departure, on what it takes to live, laugh and love regardless of your diagnoses. Frank is an advocate now to anyone who needs that inspiration, guidance and support through their journey,we are so proud to have him as a strong addition to the FOC Family.
Judith comes to us from San Diego California after extensive traveling. Her father was a Commander in the service and traveling the country was a way of life for many years. Judith graduated from University of Virginia. and has been a Surgical Nurse in Tampa for 30 years working at TGH Hospital, Florida Hospitals, Hudson Eye Center and South Bay Hospital. For the last several years Judith has been an IV Nurse for a local physician. Judith has attended USF taking Graduate courses in Aids Education, Women’s Studies and Psychology. She is certified in Adult and Child CPR.
She is an active volunteer for the Migrant Farm Workers Ministry of Florida . Collecting and delivering donations of food, clothing and Xmas gifts for our area workers. Judith is active in her community of Land O Lakes Florida with an active program to help and support our indigent homeless people, and she also volunteers for the Learn To Read Program in Hillsborough County.
Judith volunteered for her first Faces of Courage Children’s Camp 4 years ago and was an instant part of the camp family. She has worked as “Nurse Judy “ ever since and feels joy at every camp she attends. Being on the Board of Directors will enable Judith to expand education and initiate self help programs the local people in need. Knowledge and self awareness is paramount to the healing process of cancer patients, Judith is not only a nurse, but a cancer survivor with the communication skills to bring this understanding to others.
Judith retired from the medical field 3 years ago. Lives with her husband in Land O Lakes and enjoys fishing and reading. She has five children, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren whom visit often to liven things up to keep her young.
